Apple Limits iOS 27.2 Siri AI to Select iPhones

Chapters
The short version
Apple releases iOS 27.2 with Siri AI in five more languages, and MacRumors reported that the update is now available to iPhone users. Only iPhone 16 models and later, plus the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, get the Siri AI features, Engadget reported, while every iPhone receives the rest of the update.
- Siri AI can now recall earlier chats and draw on voicemails, Calendar attendees, and photos in Messages, MacRumors reported.
- An Excluded Apps setting governs which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can reach, Engadget said.
- BGR reported that the new Siri AI is still unavailable in the European Union over legal issues.
- Google's SynthID watermarking tool now works in Photos and Image Playground, Engadget reported.
Apple widens Siri AI beyond English
MacRumors reported on October 26, 2026, that Apple released iOS 27.2, an iPhone update that extends Siri AI to French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Mezha described iOS 27.2 on October 26, 2026, as the first major update to iOS 27, which launched in September. The update reaches every iPhone that supports iOS 27, including the iPhone Duo, Mezha said. Apple had tested the build in beta before issuing a release candidate on October 19, Theapplepost reported on October 26, 2026.
Beyond the iPhone, Apple pushed 27.2 updates on the same day for iPad, Apple TV, Vision Pro, and HomePod, Engadget reported on October 26, 2026. Users install the iPhone release through Settings > General > Software Update, according to Mezha and Theapplepost.
Siri AI now recalls earlier conversations
Apple said the update provides "the ability to retain useful context from previous Siri interactions as well as draw from a wider range of personal context," Cultofmac reported on October 26, 2026. MacRumors gave the example of asking Siri about restaurants it recommended the week before.
The added context sources include photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List, MacRumors reported. Cultofmac described the conversational recall as a way for the assistant to remember things a user previously chatted about.
A new Excluded Apps setting lets an iPhone user block Siri, Search, and suggestions from reaching a specific app, Engadget reported. Users can also select and copy part of a Siri AI response through granular text selection, according to Engadget.
Siri AI runs on iPhone 16 and 15 Pro models
Engadget said the Siri AI features run on iPhone 16 models and later plus the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. Every iPhone can use the remaining changes in iOS 27.2, according to Engadget. On the Apple Watch, watchOS 27.2 receives the same Siri AI lineup as the iPhone, while macOS 27.2 brings conversation recall and Suggestions in Messages alongside bug fixes and security updates, Engadget reported.
As of October 2026, Apple Intelligence supports 15 languages across its features, BGR reported on October 26, 2026, after a rollout that began with American English. BGR also reported that the new Siri AI is still unavailable in the European Union because of legal issues between Apple and the region; the report has not been confirmed elsewhere. In the EU, iOS 27.2 adds an alternative expanded prompt for App Tracking Transparency, MacRumors said.
| Platform or device | 27.2 changes | Source |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 16 and later, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max | Siri AI recall, new context sources, Excluded Apps, text selection, new languages | Engadget |
| Other iPhones on iOS 27 | Non-Siri changes such as Messages Suggestions and SynthID support | Engadget |
| Apple Watch (watchOS 27.2) | Same Siri AI lineup as iPhone | Engadget |
| Mac (macOS 27.2) | Conversation recall, Suggestions in Messages, security updates | Engadget |
Messages, Photos, and Apple TV also change
MacRumors said Messages now offers AI suggestions for quick actions in apps such as Calendar and Reminders. Photos and Image Playground add support for Google's SynthID watermarking tool, which identifies images created or modified with generative AI, Engadget reported. Shared Albums in Photos now allow edits to captions and comments, according to Engadget.
On iPhone, the Apple TV app now supports individual profiles that separate recommendations, viewing history, and content restrictions for different users, Theapplepost said. Apple Music gets a new black-and-white icon, and Apple Books gains redesigned reading controls, according to Theapplepost.
BGR reported that the update adds Dual Capture in group FaceTime and that Apple returned to the old Health app interface after testing a revamp in beta 4. Apple still plans a proper release of the Health redesign later this year, BGR said. The iPhone Duo, Apple's first foldable iPhone, now supports the Apple Pencil and Edge Light, an on-screen ring light for video calls, Engadget reported.
Tron's take
My take: iOS 27.2 deserves a planned rollout, not a same-day push to every company phone. The argument that a small business must adopt each AI release immediately to stay competitive does not persuade me here; the Siri AI changes are assistant upgrades, not a new business process. The opposite view, that news like this is irrelevant to a small firm, also falls short, because the new personal-context sources sit on phones employees already carry. That is my reading of the news, not a reported result.
My advice for an owner or IT lead: first, list company iPhones by model and compare them against Engadget's list, since only those models get Siri AI. Second, decide whether Siri should draw on voicemails, Calendar attendees, and Messages photos on phones that hold client data, and use Excluded Apps to keep it out of apps you consider sensitive. Third, I would install iOS 27.2 on two or three test phones for a week before a wider rollout. XL.net sells managed IT services, which is the category this advice falls into.
Teams that create images with generative tools, like those covered in XL.net's HitPaw FotorPea V5 report, should test whether SynthID flags their files in Photos. XL.net first noted the Siri AI upgrade in a September 36Kr briefing; I would treat the 27.2 language expansion as a reason to review policy, not a deadline.
Questions I'd expect
Which iPhones get the new Siri AI features in iOS 27.2?

What languages did Siri AI add in iOS 27.2?
MacRumors reported the addition of French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. BGR reported that, as of October 2026, Apple Intelligence supports 15 languages overall.
How do users install iOS 27.2?
Mezha and Theapplepost said users install the update through Settings > General > Software Update on compatible iPhone models.
